Munich, February 6, 2025 – The Munich-based software company RIO has appointed Fabian Schaefer (40) as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Effective immediately, he will be responsible for accounting, legal affairs, taxation, and controlling. Schaefer succeeds Christopher Busch, who is taking on new responsibilities within the TRATON Group.
Fabian Schaefer has extensive experience in the automotive and commercial vehicle industry. After studying law in Greifswald and passing his first state examination, the diplomat’s son—who has lived in New York, Bonn, Singapore, Switzerland, and Berlin, among other places—joined Volkswagen Group China in 2012, where he worked in various strategic and operational roles. His areas of focus included Group Strategy & Planning, Sales & Marketing, and Finance.
In 2017, Schaefer joined the TRATON Group, where he held various management positions in controlling. From 2018, as Head of Common Projects Controlling, he was responsible for cross-divisional financial projects and was also involved in the TRATON IPO. From 2021 to 2023, he led Cross-Functional & Project Controlling before taking on the role of Head of Portfolio Controlling and Process & Methods in 2024. As CFO of RIO, Schaefer will contribute his expertise in finance and corporate management.
